I once heard a very good statement from a preacher at church: “If people know what you stand for, then they will know what you are against.” I understood this to mean that when a person holds firm to his beliefs and principles, and has a solid foundation based on those beliefs and principles, then that person can be depended on to act and lead in a certain way. With this in mind, I always try to speak in terms of what I am for and what I stand for – because that is the best way to let you know more about me.
Simply, I am a principled conservative Republican Christian man that believes in God, the Constitution and equal enforcement of the law. I love my family, I love Mississippi, and I love the United States of America – and I thank God for each blessing He has given me.
I believe in fiscal conservatism, and I think our government should be held accountable for every dollar it takes in. I believe the government’s job is not to create opportunities and pick winners and losers in our economy; instead, I believe our government should remove restrictions and allow our economy to grow naturally. There is nothing better than the competitive American spirit when it comes to building and growing a thriving economy, and the government should be careful not to overburden the private sector with regulations.
I believe in supporting our law enforcement officials and our prosecutors that work dangerous jobs to ensure our safety. I know that safety is vital for a community that will grow and thrive. I know that our criminal justice system may not be perfect, but I still believe it to be the best in the world when it comes to getting criminals off our streets while affording rights and protections under the law to all of our citizens. I believe that those that commit crimes should be punished, and I believe that those that are able to be rehabilitated and reformed should be given every opportunity to succeed after serving their punishment.
I believe in our Constitutional Republic and in fair and secure democratic elections by which we select our leaders. I believe each individual citizen should have access to their representatives at all levels of government, and that they should ask questions and hold their representatives accountable. I know that the citizens of District 51 will not always agree with every vote and every position I take or have taken – but I hope that each and every person that lives in our community knows they have my respect and are entitled to my time when discussing issues. I promise to always be honest and to explain positions that I take and votes that I make so that even when we disagree, you will know why and how I reached my decision while representing you.
I am extremely grateful and honored to serve as your State Senator for District 51, and I humbly ask for your continued support and for your vote so that I can continue to serve our community. Thank you.
